Watercolors

I didn’t begin my painting career with watercolors. I was so used to working with the texture of oil paint. Watercolors were too watery and lacked control. I was kind of a snob. I can say that now, because it was over 8 years ago and I have since evolved.

In 2013, my husband decided to go back to school for a big career change. We sold our house and all of our stuff and moved from Washington state to begin our lives in California. With two little kids, we moved in with my husband’s parents while he was in school. Needless to say, painting with messy (and often stinky) paints when you are trying to respect someone else’s space is hard. Doing that, while trying to keep your two mischievous toddlers from breaking your in-laws’ knickknacks… is even harder… it was just not going to happen.

I still needed a creative outlet and wanted to keep my art career moving forward. So I turned to Watercolors. They were easy to clean up and easy to take with me places. And surprise, surprise I fell in love them and use them all the time!

Daddy’s Glove

Several years ago I was commissioned to make these personalized baseball gloves for several professional baseball players. The players were new dads and these paintings were not only to be cute nursery décor but also something really special for the families.

The gloves where the same ones each player used during games and written in the leather and on the baseball was info about brand new baby (name and birthdate and birth weight etc.). I edited out the personal info for privacy reasons, but this was definitely one of my favorite custom projects!

Pets and Portraits

Unique to You

Every once in a while I get asked to do something really fun and unique. Before starting this painting, I knew three things; I knew her favorite colors, I knew she loved owls and I knew she dreamed of learning how to carve bone. It’s a hobby I had no clue about until she explained it to me. Did you know you people carve these beautiful designs in cow or deer skulls!?! It takes a lot of skill!

So putting these things together; something she loves, something with meaning and something to dream of. I painted this cow skull with an owl design carved into it, for one very happy customer.
